We begin our journey to Egypt, where we explore a land of ancient wonders and modern marvels. We arrive at our hotel, The Nile Ritz-Carlton, situated in the heart of Cairo that lies between the Nile river, Tahrir square and adjacent to the Egyptian Museum. The hotel features panoramic views of the Nile corniche and only a stroll across to Qasr El Nil Bridge and Cairo Opera House. Once checked into your suite, you have time to explore the hotel and relax by the pool. This evening enjoy dinner on your own at one of the nine onsite dining options.

This morning we are off to our first excursion to the Grand Egypt Museum, one of the largest, most modern and most renowned museums in the world, where we see the complete collection of King Tut’s Treasures, first unearthed by Howard Carter in November 1922. After lunch at Mena House, we visit the famous Giza Pyramids just outside of Cairo. The Pyramids, built in the 26th century BC, are the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Finally, this evening we host a Welcome Reception at our hotel where you will meet and mingle with Globe journalists and your fellow guests and enjoy a Globe Journalist Talk with Nathan VanderKlippe.

This morning we check out of our Cairo hotel and head to the airport for our short flight to the captivating city of Luxor. Luxor is located in Upper (Southern) Egypt and includes the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes.  Once in Luxor, you will be transferred from the airport to our ship, the AmaDahlia, where we embark.  The AmaDahlia is an inviting 72-passenger ship offering 36 staterooms, including 16 magnificent suites with a wealth of amenities that will surprise and delight you, including a heated sun-deck swimming pool and bar, The Chef’s Al Fresco Restaurant, hair and nail salon and two massage rooms. Begin your day with a Globe Insider Breakfast with Globe’s Editor-in-Chief, David Walmsley and European Bureau Chief, Eric Reguly, as they discuss the daily newspaper headlines. Today’s excursions include exclusive access to the Tomb of Queen Nefertari and a visit to the Valley of the Queens and Kings.  Queen Nefertari was the principal wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II. The tomb is considered to be one of the most beautiful and important tombs in the Valley of the Queens and is notable for its vibrant colours and intricate details. The most famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings is that of Tutankhamun, which was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922. The tomb contained a wealth of treasures, including the pharaoh's golden death mask, and provided valuable insights into the life and death of the young king. This afternoon, enjoy a Globe Journalist Talk by Eric Reguly. And finally, this evening we have dinner back onboard the ship.

Once again, begin your day with a Globe Insider Breakfast with David Walmsey & Opinion Writer, Andrew Coyne as they review and discuss the daily newspaper headlines. On Day 5 of our tour, guests visit the Temple of Horus, also known as the Edfu Temple. The temple is dedicated to Horus, one of the most important deities in the ancient Egyptian pantheon, who was worshiped as the god of kingship and the sky. The temple was designed to be a grand and impressive structure, with massive columns, elaborate friezes, and intricate carvings depicting the myths and legends of ancient Egypt. One of the most striking features of the temple is the Hypostyle Hall, which is supported by 32 massive columns that are decorated with intricate carvings and hieroglyphics. The Temple of Horus is one of the best-preserved ancient Egyptian temples and is renowned for its stunning artwork and impressive architecture. This afternoon after returning to the ship, enjoy an exclusive Globe Journalist Talk with Andrew Coyne. This evening we have dinner onboard our ship.

This morning, begin your day with our Globe Insider Breakfast with Globe Editor-in-chief, David Walmsley and Andrew Coyne as they review and discuss the daily newspaper headlines. Today enjoy a free morning and perhaps relax on the ship’s deck or for those more adventurous travelers, visit UNESCO World Heritage Site, Abu Simbel*. This afternoon, we take a Felucca (a traditional wooden sailing boat) and sail the tranquil waters of the Nile river and enjoy the stunning views of Elephantine island and its surroundings. This evening we are back onboard our ship for dinner.

FRIDAY, APRIL 12

This morning is our Globe Insider Breakfast with our Globe journalists where they review and discuss the daily newspaper headlines. Today guests visit a Nubian Village and the Philae Temple. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Isis, who was revered as the protector of the dead, the goddess of motherhood, and the giver of life. The temple was also a center of pilgrimage for worshipers of Isis, who would come from all over Egypt to pay their respects to the goddess and seek her blessings. The temple was a hub of activity and was home to a variety of religious rituals and ceremonies, including the annual festival of Osiris, which celebrated the god of the dead and the afterlife. Next, we visit The Great Temple of Kom Ombo. One of the most striking features of the temple is the presence of a series of reliefs that depict medical instruments and surgical procedures, suggesting that the temple may have also been used as a center of healing and medicine. Tonight we enjoy a Traditional Galabeya Evening, where guest experience Egypt’s traditional music, dance and dress.

This morning join David Walmsley for our Globe Insider Breakfast as he reviews and discusses the daily newspaper headlines. This afternoon we have a full day with a visit to Karnak Temple, considered to be one of the most important and largest temple complexes in the world, covering an area of more than 100 hectares. The complex was built over a period of more than 2,000 years, from the Middle Kingdom to the Ptolemaic period, and was dedicated to the worship of the gods Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. We then watch a demonstration of the art of papyrus making. Finally, we visit a local market and the Luxor Temple, built by a number of pharaohs, including Amenhotep III, Tutankhamun, and Ramses II. Also this afternoon, you’ll enjoy a Globe Journalist Talk with Globe Business Reporter, Susan Krashinsky Robertson. Tonight we enjoy dinner once again onboard the ship.

This morning is our final Globe Insider Breakfast with David Walmsley, Susan Krashinsky Robertson and Grant Robertson, please join them as they review and discuss the daily newspaper headlines. Today we visit the Temple of Hathor. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Hathor, who was worshipped as the goddess of music, dance, and love. One of the most striking features of the temple is the Hypostyle Hall, which is a large room with 18 columns decorated with carvings of Hathor. The temple's ceiling is also decorated with a stunning astronomical relief, which depicts the zodiac and various celestial bodies. This relief is considered to be one of the most important astronomical documents from ancient Egypt. Following the temple visit, we sail leisurely back from Qena to Luxor. This afternoon enjoy a Globe Journalist Talk with Investigative Reporter, Grant Robertson. Tonight is our last night onboard where we enjoy our final dinner together on the ship.

This morning we travel from Luxor back to Cairo and enjoy one last day in this remarkable city with a day of touring and a one night stay back at the Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel Cairo. We enjoy an exclusive tour of the Abdeen Presidential Palace and lunch. The Abdeen Presidential Palace is a historic palace located in the district of Abdeen in Cairo, Egypt. It was originally built in 1863 as a residence for the Khedive Ismail, who ruled Egypt from 1863 to 1879. Today, the palace serves as the official residence of the President of Egypt.  The palace is a stunning example of European-style architecture, with influences from the Baroque, Rococo, and Neo-Classical styles. The palace's exterior features beautiful ornamental details, including balconies, columns, and intricate carvings. The palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens, which include a variety of trees and plants, as well as several fountains and sculptures. The palace has been the site of many important events throughout Egypt's history. In 1919, it was the site of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I and recognized Egypt's independence from Great Britain. In 1952, it was the site of the military coup that overthrew King Farouk and established the modern republic of Egypt. Tonight guests are on their own for dinner.
